Hussam Ayloush is the Executive Director of the Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA), the leading advocacy group for American Muslims.On October 7, 2023, Hussam Ayloush issued the following statement on the October 7 attack on Israel led a coalition of 10 terrorist groups by the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, the Islamic Jihad and the Mujahideen Brigades and resulted in about 1,200 dead and more than 250 hostages:
To all morally-corrupt politicians or activists who only remember to comment when Israel is under attack while remaining hypocritically silent as Israel viciously attacks Palestinians every single day of the year. Every innocent life is sacred, valuable, and should be protected; every life, not just Israeli ones. Shame on those hypocritical cowardly people. Instead of selective words of condemnation, solidarity, and prayers, we should all pray and lobby for an end of Israel's occupation, apartheid, daily humiliation and abuse, and terrorizing of the Palestinian people. If we don't, then we should never act so surprised and appalled that such dehumanized people will lash out in such desperate ways and imitate (with a lesser scale) their oppressors. Palestinians are not different than any other people. They want to live free and with dignity on their own land. It is time we end this western hypocrisy that has allowed, funded and defended this Zionist brutality and colonial racism to go on for over 75 years.
Peace requires justice.
